This article (http://tinyurl.com/puaaszf) by former MLB player, Gabe Kapler, illustrates the importance that the mental makeup of an athlete plays in whether they succeed in the competitive arena. Baseball players, perhaps more than athletes in any other sport, must be able to deal with failure and maintain their self-confidence and belief in themselves if they are to succeed on a consistent basis. After all, the best hitters in the game hit safely only three out of every ten at bats and no pitcher is perfect every game. One has to have the requisite skills to compete at a high level, but all the skills in the world are nothing without the ability and mental skills to handle the adversity and failures one will face in their competitive career.
