“Bill Starr and the 5×5 Training Template”

Coach Patrick Ward discusses how to utilize the 5×5 training plan outlined within Bill Starr’s text The Strongest Shall Survive: Strength Training for Football to create a variety of templates. Coach Starr’s book was one of three books recommended by Virginia Tech’s Mike Gentry at the 2015 Jeff Connors’ Strength and Conditioning Clinic this past February. The other two texts were Coach Connor’s Strength Coach: A Call to Serve and Coach Gentry’s own The Ultimate Guide to Physical Training for Football. Coach Ward does an excellent job in this article demonstrating how the 5×5 training plan can serve as the foundation of an athlete’s program.
